HTSF doctoral workshop: IMPLICATIONS OF RESEARCH FOR SCIENCE AND SOCIETY

The doctoral workshop HTSF is open to all Ph.D. candidates visiting the HTSF conference. The candidates can combine this with a presentation at the HTSF conference, if they wish so to do.
The doctoral workshop follows the general theme of the conference “Science-based Business and Entrepreneurship”, and it also includes innovation, university-business collaboration and related topics and invites the participants to contemplate on the implications of their research

The doctoral workshop has the following format:

09.30 Opening

09.45 Plenary part

09.45 – 10.15 Prof. dr. Ray Oakey tells about his career and studies in HTSF

10.15 – 10.30 Q&A with prof. Oakey

10.30 – 11.00 Dr. Kevin Augustijn tells about the value of social sciences and business studies for the sciences. Dr. Augustijn recently joined the Science, Business & Innovation (SBI) group at the VU after working for many years in chemistry.

11.00 – 11.15 Q&A with dr. Augustijn

11.15 – 12.30 Panel discussion on the value of research for science and society. The panel has the following members: prof. Oakey, dr. Augustijn, dr. Wakkee, prof. Baaken, prof. Kliewe, prof. Kurzhals, prof. Cook and prof. Groen. The panel is moderated by prof. Van der Sijde

12.30 – 13.30 Lunch

13.30 – 17.00 Three parallel workshops in which the Ph.D. candidates present their research (about 15 minutes) and present what they think is the value of the research for science and society (about 10 minutes). Next there is a discussion moderated by one of the faculty of the workshop. Active participation of all is required and one of the participants makes notes on the discussion in order to enable the presenter to concentrate on the discussion.
